COMBE MARTIN: The Castle Inn

The two Pauls – Sartin and Hutchinson – defy musical description and most other things too! With fiddle, oboe, accordion and voices, they specialise in interpreting English traditional and historical dance music, albeit in an unorthodox manner which often ruffles feathers, and there are songs added into the mix as well. Sartin is also a member of Bellowhead and Faustus, and Hutchinson of Hoover the Dog, by which it can be surmised that there’s nothing conventional about them! The website says: “If you like Mozart, Beethoven, Elvis Presley or the Spinners, avoid them – you have been warned!” Unless, of course, you like musical humour, in which case they are the ones to serve it up in bucketfuls! This is one not to be missed, whatever your musical tastes may be.
